Pan Amsterdam starts 2021 with a remix of last years, Carrot Cake.

The original version of Carrot Cake, with GUTS, started off the album campaign for 2020’s HA Chu. The single was met with much love and support. Playlisted at BBC 6 Music for quite some time and also playlisted over in France at Radio Nova. The album received glowing reviews in Vinyl District, MOJO, The Wire, The Times/The Sunday Times, Okayplayer, AOTD at BBC 6 Music, AOTD at Bandcamp and several more online, written and radio outlets.

Pan Am wanted to work with Satoshi and Makato, two brothers from Kawasaki, Japan. They decided to collaborate on a remix of Carrot Cake and here we are.

The Tomino brothers (Satoshi and Makato) have two fine albums behind them based on the sound and sequencing provided by the Casio CZ-5000. Upon hearing these works Pan Am was hooked on that sound and figured it would be a nice place for his vocals and trumpet to sit.

Much more to come from Pan Amsterdam later in the year but, for now...

When Pan Amsterdam washed up on the coast, he was wearing an oversized black velvet jacket with a cigarette burn, black jeans and two different coloured church socks. Further along the coast we found a trumpet case WITH a trumpet inside of it, in the case's side zipper there was a mouthpiece, valve oil for the horn, and a drive with tape on. Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
